The train trip from Nice to Italy was amazing. I realised the the Italian Riviera is just as beautiful as the French, and probably not quite as touristy. We hugged the coastline for a while before going inland through Genoa and Pisa to Florence. Three trains and nine hours of travelling later I found myself in the monstrous Santa Maria Novella station. I then walked five minutes to a small 17th century hotel called Hotel Byron, where I paid 60,000 lira ($60) for a room for the night.
I phoned Linda and arranged my trip to Figline the next day.
